Steve LeBlanc will fill the position of head coach of both the women’s and men’s cross-country teams that compete in the Atlantic University Sport conference.

The Université de Moncton athletic director, Marc Boudreau, made the announcement on Thursday. LeBlanc will handle both cross-country and track and field duties, both seasons being separate in the calendar.

“I know Steve LeBlanc will do an excellent job with our cross-country teams,” stated Marc Boudreau. “He has valuable experience in both cross-country and track and field and many athletes compete in both.”

“I am looking forward to taking over the cross-country teams,” LeBlanc added. “I will have the opportunity to coach athletes in both sports. My focus will be on athlete recruitment in the next few weeks to build for the 2019-2020 season for both sports. The team had an excellent leader in Jean-Marc Doiron, and I am ready for the challenge. I wish to build competitive teams, and I will focus on recruiting new members. I also expect closer ties between cross-country and track and field teams. I will meet with the runners and add others to build a base core team for the future. They will receive a summer practice program so they will be ready for the fall season. It is a big challenge, but I am confident. I was a cross-country athlete myself, and I have knowledge of the sport. The emphasis will be on endurance.”

LeBlanc takes over the teams immediately, and Jean-Marc Doiron will continue to offer some advice to the athletes.
