The Université de Moncton today announced a major $1 million donation through its Evolution Fundraising Campaign from Medavie Inc. This donation will be used to establish an endowment fund called the Fonds de bourses Medavie.

Scholarships will be awarded through the Fonds de bourses Medavie to students enrolled full-time in a program in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Community Services or in the preparatory program in health sciences (D.S.S.) who are also members of the women’s or men’s soccer team or the mixed track and field or cross-country team. These scholarships will be awarded annually using the income generated by the endowment fund.

This major $1 million donation is the latest in a series of contributions from Medavie Inc., which has also allocated significant funds toward financing research projects in the field of mental health. In recognition of the generosity of Medavie Inc., the Université de Moncton has announced that the stadium on the Moncton campus will be renamed the Stade Croix Bleue Medavie Stadium.

At the ceremony marking the occasion, Evolution Fundraising Campaign co-chair Bernard Lord, in the company of the campaign Cabinet members, also announced that the fundraising campaign had reached a new milestone of $40 million. Efforts continue to reach the campaign’s main fundraising objective of $50 million.

“As a major employer, having access to a highly skilled and bilingual workforce is essential to our organization and to our mission of improving the wellbeing of Canadians,” noted Bernard Lord, CEO of Medavie. “Investing in scholarships for post-secondary student athletes pursuing careers in health also aligns with our support of health-related outcomes in the communities where our employees and clients live and work.”

“It is a wonderful day for the Université de Moncton, with the announcement of this major donation to the Evolution Fundraising Campaign, the latest campaign milestone and the official renaming of the stadium in honour of a very important donor,” stated interim president and vice-chancellor Jacques Paul Couturier. “Thank you to everyone at Medavie Inc. for this exceptional donation.”

The Evolution Fundraising Campaign aims to enhance excellence in research and development and in delivery of the student experience at the Université de Moncton. Under the auspices of this major fundraising campaign, the Université de Moncton has continued to expand its scholarship program—already one of the most generous and comprehensive in New Brunswick—to support its current students, grow its student population and promote graduate-level study.
