Fourteen Athletes Nominated for the Annual Sport Awards Banquet

The Athletic Department of the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton will honour its 2018-2019 Atlantic University Sport and U SPORTS student athletes during its annual awards banquet to be held on Thursday, March 28th, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Moncton.

There are 14 deserving athletes from nine teams vying for the various awards following another exciting sport season.

The four nominees for the women’s athlete of the year award are Carol-Ann MacDonald, from Irishtown, in cross-country; Pascale Doiron, from Dieppe, in volleyball; Katryne Villeneuve, from Casselman, in hockey; and Véronique Omalosonga, from Moncton, in track and field.

The men’s athletes of the year award will be presented to either Maxime St-Cyr, from Saint-Didace, in hockey; Jean-Luc Bastarache, from Truro, in track and field; or Jean-Michel Dako, from Moncton, in soccer.

A hockey player from Valleyfield, Étienne Montpetit, and a soccer player from St John’s, Felly Elonda, are up for the men’s rookie of the year title.

The choice for women's rookie of the year will be done between Joanie Arsenault, from Tracadie, in volleyball; Sophie Black, from Dieppe, in cross-country and track and field; Kyla Hughes, from Cocagne, in track and field; Audrey Berthiaume, from St-Bruno, in hockey; and Mia Brideau, from Dieppe, in soccer.

Coach of the year and the AUS James Bayer Award recipient will also be named during the evening.
