Three Université de Moncton athletes and coach Steve LeBlanc are in Winnipeg, Manitoba, for the U SPORTS track and field championships.

Jean-Luc Bastarache (gold-4569 points) and Alain Doucet (silver-4513 points), two fifth-year athletes, will take part in the heptathlon competitions. They both were very successful at the Atlantic University Sport championships that were held two weeks ago. Rookie Kyla Hughes won the gold in women shot at a distance of 12.33 m.

“I believe the two male athletes could finish top 8 in heptathlon,” said coach Steve LeBlanc. “Kyla could surprise, she is looking for a personal best (12.56 m) and also enjoy her first national university experience.”

The competitions begin on Thursday with heptathlon, and they will continue Friday. Hughes will be throwing on Friday evening.
