The 2 of 3 quarterfinal series of Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s hockey between the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (13-14-1=27 points, 6th position) and the Saint Mary’s University Huskies (18-9-1=37 points, 3rd position) gets underway this Friday, at 7:30 p.m., at the Civic Centre, in Halifax.

The Marc-André Côté coached team will not have an easy task as they lost four games in the regular season to the Huskies. The scores were 4-0, 4-1, 2-1 and 5-2. Moncton did win its last two games and Saint Mary’s, its last three. Moncton scored 66 goals and allowed 74 in 28 games compared to 65 and 47 for the Huskies.

“We did play well against the Huskies even if they won all the games,” said Marc-André Côté. “We are capable of surprising them and we need to demonstrate we are not a 6th place team. The Huskies have four good lines and they all work hard. Their goaltender (Rebecca Clark) also has experience. We have a good challenge. We did bring a few minor adjustments to our play. We want to control the puck better and limit their time in control.”

The AUS scoring champion and fifth-year player, Katryne Villeneuve, is aware of the pressure on her shoulders for this series. “I will do what I can to help my team win the series,” said Villeneuve. “I am happy to have won the scoring title, but we also want to extend our season as long as possible. I know I will be followed closely by the Huskies players, but I will do my best to help the team and score. We did lose some battles along the boards against them, so we need to work harder and win more. Playing 60 minutes with no time off and within our system is also needed. The Huskies have a more physical team compared to our smaller team, but we can win.”

The second game will be at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena on Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets for the game may be purchased at the rink ticket office two hours prior to the encounter. The third game, if needed, will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Halifax.

All games are on webcast at www.AUStv.ca.
