Aigles Bleus to Host Tigers this Saturday
The Aigles Bleus are looking forward to securing a playoff spot as soon as possible. The team is presently in fourth place in the standings with eight wins, seven losses and three overtime losses, with 19 points. The Tigers (5-13-0=10 points, 7th position) are at the bottom of the standings and must win games to climb into one of the top six playoffs qualifying spots. The Aigles Bleus have won their last two games. The Tigers won their last game.
Moncton’s head coach, Judes Vallée, is aware of the challenges of the second semester. “We have a lot of work in front of us to qualify for the playoffs,” Vallée said. “The teams behind us are winning games and are getting closer. Dalhousie won on Wednesday. It is important for us to win these games. Last year, we were not able to win a game in the second semester; this year, we modified our training program in December and we also played an exhibition game. The players are in shape and it’s different. We are looking for the best possible rank for the playoffs, and the battle begins on Saturday. The calibre of play inches a notch, but our training is also more intense with a heavy schedule. Discipline will be the word to respect, and we addressed this with the players so they can better manage off ice activities.”
“We need to play much better in the third period,” added team captain, Thierry Comtois. “A good defensive game plan in our zone will help launch the attack to score goals. Our objective is to qualify for the playoffs, and we need to better our first semester performance to achieve that. We played well, but we need to be much better.”
The Aigles Bleus lost all second semester games last season and were eliminated from further play. The University of Prince Edward Island Panthers, 3rd in the standings, and the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men, 4th, each have 20 points.
