The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues resume playing with the first of 12 second semester games as they host the Dalhousie University Tigers this Friday at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena, in an Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey game.

The Marc-André Côté coached team presently sits in sixth place in the standings with a record of seven wins, eight losses and one overtime loss, for 15 points. This is the last qualifying position for the playoffs. Moncton has a five-point lead over the Tigers (4-10-2=10 points, 7th position) and hopes to widen the gap between the two teams with a win on Friday.

“We need to better execute on the ice and score more often,” said Moncton coach, Marc-André Côté. “This is an important game because Dalhousie is behind us in the standings, and I am sure they wish to forge ahead. We will follow our process and play period by period. We have internal objectives for this second semester. We need to build our confidence and with 12 games to play, we have a very good schedule of games and days off. The players know what they wish to accomplish, and they know what is needed to achieve.”

“The play in the second semester goes up a notch,” said team captain, Cassandra Labrie. “We need to arrive ready and to focus on our objectives. We need to look at groups of three games and concentrate on playing one period at a time. All players need to offer 110 percent. We are ahead of Dalhousie, but we will have to play a full 60 minutes and score goals. We have to find ways of aiming for the holes in opposing nets.”

Moncton won its last game while Dalhousie has lost its last five. All Moncton players are available to play. Dalhousie won 5-1 in the lone encounter between the two teams in the first semester. They play each other three times this month.
