All seven Atlantic University Sport hockey teams still have a chance at the playoffs, but with the regular schedule at the halfway mark, the competition becomes more intense.

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (6-5-2=14 points, 4th position) were absent from the playoffs last season and they will be playing two important home games this weekend to keep its grab on one of the six playoff spots. Moncton will host the Acadia University Axemen (4-7-1=9 points, 6th position) for a return game on Friday, and the Saint Mary’s University Huskies (8-3-1=17 points, 2nd position) on Saturday. Both games will take place at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena. These are the 14th and 15th regular season games for Moncton, so midway of the 30 games regular schedule.

“This is the return match against Acadia; we did not play very well in Wolfville, and we lost our focus on their large ice surface,” Moncton coach Judes Vallée said. “We are home and we don’t want two losses in a row. We are looking for revenge. We practised hard this week to be ready mentally and physically for the games. Against the Huskies, it will not be easy. We humiliated them on Wednesday of last week, and I expect a much better opposition and a solid performance from them. They are looking to get us. We did not give them anything last week, now the difficulty is in repeating our performance and win the standings points.”

Rookie forward Alexandre Jacob expects two very intense games that will be demanding on the players. “We are looking for revenge against Acadia,” Jacob said. “We only play 30 games and time is flying. The Axemen embarrassed us last weekend, and we want to return the favour. The players are excited for the return game. As for the Huskies, we blanked them 6-0 and they were not happy to lose against us in our rink. They are returning mad and will give us a good game. We need to be ready. We worked on our systems this week. We need to remain positive, play with intensity, follow our game plan and put the focus on the base to win both games.”
