Aigles Soccer Teams Host Tigers Saturday

Both Université de Moncton soccer teams will end their regular schedule play on Saturday as they host the Dalhousie University Tigers at the Stade Moncton Stadium.

The Aigles Bleues (1-9-1=4 points, 10th position) will play their thirteenth game of the season without any hope of advancing to the Atlantic University Sport Championship. The team would like to end the season on a positive note and to get out of the last place in the standings.

“We want to remain professional on the field,” said coach Mehyar Zekaroui. “We will play with the same attitude and intensity displayed in the last few games. The women played well. We are looking for a win to end the season on a positive note and for our four players ending their university career. I expect to play a mix of rookies and veterans and to offer more playing time to the first and second year players to give them more experience.”

The Aigles Bleus (4-7-0=12 points, 7th position) have a slight chance at the playoffs. The result of the Friday evening's game between Saint Mary’s University and the University of Prince Edward Island will decide the scenario. A win by Saint Mary’s will end all chances of the Aigles advancing. The Aigles and the Huskies could be tied in the standings and a loss by the Huskies and an Aigles win will give the advantage to the local team.

“We must play with the same energy and intensity as we did in the last two outings,” indicated coach Florian Ntima Nsiemi. “The players realized their potential in our last two games, winning both. The new blood has helped. We are looking for results and a win. We will know the importance of our game following the Friday evening encounter. But regardless whether we advance or not, we will play hard. Our aim is to finish the season with a win for our graduating players.”

The Université de Moncton’s Athletic Department will recognize the 4th and 5th year players in a ceremony before the game. In women play, the 4th year players are the twins Dominique and Madelaine LeBlanc and the 5th year players are Monica Gallant, Renée Gauvin and team captain Emilie Naugle. In men’s soccer, Jean-Michel Dako is a 4th year player and Alex Laperrière, Sory Sangaré and team captain Saad Mohamed Mersadi are 5th year players.
