The 2018-2019 Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball season gets underway this weekend as the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues play two weekend games.

The Aigles Bleues will host the University of New Brunswick Reds on Friday at 7 p.m. at the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud gymnasium. Saturday, the Monette Boudreau-Carroll coached team will travel to Wolfville for an encounter with the Acadia University Axewomen.

“The team will be competitive during the 2018-219 season,” said Monette Boudreau-Carroll. “We have a very young squad that will work hard. We lack university experience, and we will learn from our mistakes.”

The Reds also have a young team, and Boudreau-Carroll expects her charges to experience an interesting first game. “The players all want to gain valuable experience,” she added. “We have six rookies and five veterans, but four are second-year players. Only three have real university calibre experience. Whatever the result, we must move forward. The season is long and we must not get discouraged.”

Pascale Doiron is a fourth-year athlete and has the most experience. “This is a new team with many rookies,” said Doiron. “We will see on Friday how we can play together. The first and second year players have less experience, but they bring new dynamics to the team. I am excited, and I look forward to our play on Friday. I am going into my fourth year, and I must continue my progress as a player. My role is to show them how everything functions and what to expect in university calibre games. The younger players learn fast, and I have noticed real growth from the beginning of our practices.”

The public is invited to the game on Friday to support the Aigles Bleues.
