This weekend, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (3-3-1=7 points, 5th position) will play two games in as many days in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action.

The Judes Vallée coached team will meet the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men (4-2-2=10 points, 3rd position) on Friday evening in Antigonish before hosting the Dalhousie University Tigers (1-7-0=2 points, 7th position) on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena. The Aigles and the X-Men are 1-1 against each other while Moncton did win against the Tigers.

“We remember last Saturday’s loss to the X-Men,” coach Vallée said. “They beat us in our own rink. We need to play better to do the same in their rink. We have to take advantage of more scoring opportunities and send the puck and screens in front of their net.”

The special units did not perform as expected during the last games and the coach did practice these play options this week. “The special units need to do their job on the ice,” Vallée added. “This is an important road game worth two standing points. We need to play disciplined hockey and with energy. Four teams battle it out for the playoffs, and everything began in September. We cannot afford to lose many games.”

Rookie defencemen Vincent Lanoue is happy with his play in his first month of university hockey competitions. “I was able to adapt fast enough to the speed and caliber of play,” stated Lanoue. “We are having a good start compared to last season and that is positive. The X-Men have a great fore checking style and we must rely on our speed, our plays to get the puck out of our zone to booster the offensive attack. Our structured play helps us. University hockey is a lot different than major junior; the players are bigger, faster and are grinders and they hit hard. I can now adapt to our system of play. At the beginning, I was looking for my reflexes and my points of reference on the ice. Now, I feel comfortable and my adjustment is going well.”

Joey Richard is still on the injury list. Both games can be seen on AUStv.ca.
