Third Update on the Selection Process for the Next President and Vice-Chancellor

In order to restore public confidence in the selection process for its next President and Vice-Chancellor, the Université de Moncton has decided to launch a second selection process in the spring of 2019.

This decision was made today at an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Governors, made necessary by a violation of confidentiality uncovered during the current selection process and calling the integrity of the process itself into question. This violation of confidentiality was the subject of two updates on October 16 and 18, 2018.

In light of the fact that this second selection process is designed to restore the confidence of the university community and the public, the Selection Advisory Committee will be composed of new members. Expectations are that it will be set up in the spring of 2019.

The violation of confidentiality observed during the present selection process was an opportunity for the Board of Governors to reflect on the importance of strengthening the confidentiality measures surrounding the selection process for executives. “It’s our duty to create and maintain trust among members of the university community, our partners, our suppliers, our stakeholders and the public in general. Thus, it is very important that we constantly review our processes in light of this imperative,” said the Chair of the Board of Governors, Edith Doucet.

The Board of Governors mandates the interim President and Vice-Chancellor, Jacques Paul Couturier, to ensure continuity in dealing with matters already under way at the Université and to complete the implementation of its strategic plan until June 30, 2020. “The Board of Governors wishes to thank the interim President and Vice-Chancellor for all his work over the past year,” Ms. Doucet added. “The fact that he has agreed to extend his term shows his strong commitment to furthering the Université de Moncton’s mission. He will continue to lead the troops enthusiastically until we have a new President and Vice-Chancellor in place.”

The selection process for a new President and Vice-Chancellor may take an average of up to 15 months after the start of this second round.
