Université de Moncton adopts a Cannabis Policy

Université de Moncton has just adopted its first Cannabis Policy. This policy is based on the Cannabis Act that come into force on October 17, 2018, as well as our existing policies regarding a non-smoking environment.

“Cannabis will soon be legal in Canada, our goal is to ensure the safety of the members of the academic community of our three campuses,” mentioned the interim president and vice chancellor of Université de Moncton, Jacques Paul Couturier. He went on to say that “our policy encourages responsible decision-making regarding the consumption of cannabis.”

The policy includes all the parameters required to regulate the consumption of cannabis at Université de Moncton. Essentially, cannabis consumption will be permitted starting on October 17, 2018, but in a limited manner, on all three Université de Moncton campuses.

People of legal age may only consume cannabis in a private residence managed by the housing services of all the campuses, but they may not smoke cannabis.

It remains illegal for minors to possess cannabis in New Brunswick. It is permitted for those of legal age in keeping with the Act as it relates to the packaging and labeling of cannabis.

The Cannabis Policy will be revised prior to the 2019/2020 academic year.

The Cannabis Policy is available on the Web.
