Université de Moncton Soccer Teams in Training

The Université de Moncton soccer teams began training camp last weekend and both teams will play two exhibition games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Aigles Bleues and Aigles Bleus will be in Fredericton on Tuesday, August 21, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to meet the Université Laval, Rouge et Or. Wednesday, they will play St. Francis Xavier University X-Women and X-Men at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., in Antigonish.

Mehyar Zekaroui, the women’s coach, and Florian Ntima Nsiemi, the men’s coach, each have about 24 athletes in training.

“The training sessions will last about three weeks,” said coach Zekaroui. “We have a busy agenda on and off the playing field. We will play nine exhibition games, four in Moncton and five away. I want to play as much as possible to be ready for the start of the season. We have a short regular schedule, and our first two games are against very good teams. There are 16 players returning from last season and about seven rookies. We should have strong offensive and defensive units.”

“I have a very good list of potential players,” said Florian Ntima Nsiemi. “Seventeen are veterans from last season. We will play five exhibition games and two intersquad. I informed them of the need to work hard. We need to be better offensively.”

Moncton’s regular season play begins on September 8 and 9, on the road in Antigonish and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
