Université de Moncton, Moncton campus, hockey operations director, Jean-François Damphousse, is pleased that forward Édouard Michaud, from Sherbrooke, Québec, will join the Aigles Bleus for the next Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey season.

Michaud has played with teams in major junior, Québec Junior and Alberta Junior leagues. He recently completed his career with the Alberta Grande Prairie Storm.

“The calibre of play in the Atlantic league is tops in Canada and that is the calibre I was looking for,” Michaud said. “I have not seen many university games, but I look forward to my first experience. I received a very good offer to play in the Alberta league to finish my junior career last season, and I enjoyed playing in Grande Prairie.”

Michaud, who has been playing hockey for 15 years, can play left wing or centre. “I have a very good vision of the play and I can score,” he added. “I have a very good wrist shot and I am a very fast skater. My objective with the Aigles Bleus is to study and play a high calibre game that will allow me to pursue professional opportunities later.”

Michaud, 20, is 6 feet tall and weighs 185 lbs. He will pursue studies in the leisure administration, sport and tourism sector. He was the third top scorer in the Alberta Junior League last season (2017–2018) with 39 goals and 73 points in 52 games with the Grande Prairie Storm. He added 7 goals and 2 assists in 9 playoff games. In 2016–2017, he played 34 games (14–38=52) with Granby Inouk in Québec Junior and 13 games with Sherbrooke’s Phoenix (1–3=4) of the Québec Major Junior Hockey League. He was the lone Québec player on Team Canada East that played in the World Junior A Championship, in Cobourg and Whitby, Ontario, in 2015.

“Michaud is a player we have been following. He did very well in the Alberta Junior League last season,” stated Jean-François Damphousse. “His progression as a player went well, and we believe he has the potential to become a very good university player. He has very good offensive abilities and we are happy he chose to play with the Université de Moncton.”
