Appointment of a New Vice-President at the Université de Moncton Edmundston Campus

At its meeting on June 9, the Board of Governors of the Université de Moncton nominated Madeleine Dubé as Vice-President of the Edmundston campus for a five-year term.

Ms. Dubé has been a member of Edmundston-Madawaska Centre since 1999 and is Opposition House Leader. Ms. Dubé was minister of Social Development from 2012 to 2014, minister of Health from 2010 to 2012, minister of Family and Community Services in 2006, minister responsible for Poverty Reduction in 2006 and minister responsible for the New Brunswick Advisory Council on Seniors in 2006. She also served as minister of Education from 2003 to 2006, minister responsible for Literacy from 2003 to 2006 and minister responsible for Public Libraries from 2003 to 2006.

Rooted in the Edmundston area for over 50 years, Ms. Dubé attended high school at the Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany in 1979. She went on to study at the Edmundston campus, then completed a bachelor’s degree in Social Work at the Moncton campus in 1983. She also completed course work for a master’s degree in Social Work (group intervention specialization) at Université Laval in 1998. Ms. Dubé holds certifications from Dalhousie University, including those of grievance mediation and grievance mediation training.

Ms. Dubé has received numerous awards, notably: the National Award for Outstanding Service from the Canadian Association of Social Workers in 2014, the Raoul Léger Commemorative Award from the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers in 2013 and the Social Worker of the Year Award from the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers, for Edmundston and Grand Falls. She was also awarded the Jubilee Medal of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2000.

Her appointment takes effect on July 1, 2018. She replaces Pierrette Fortin, who was appointed interim Vice-President following the departure of Jacques-Paul Couturier, now interim President and Vice-Chancellor of the Université de Moncton.
