In partnership with the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Community Services, the School of Kinesiology and Recreation Science of the Université de Moncton and the research group Momenta have arranged a guest lecture by Laurent Bosquet, professor at the Université de Poitiers, France, under the auspices of the course KNEP 3204, Physical Activity during Aging. This public lecture will take place on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. in room 226 of the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud building on the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton.

Holder of doctorates in physical activity science from the Université de Montréal and in science from the Université de Poitiers (earned in 2000 under a joint Ph.D. program), Dr. Bosquet began his career at the Faculty of Sport Sciences at the Université de Lille (2001-2005). He then moved to the Université de Montréal (2005-2008) before accepting a position at the Université de Poitiers in September 2008. Dr. Bosquet has been head of the MOVE laboratory since January 2012 and coordinator of the chair in sport, health and well-being at the Fondation Poitiers Université since that entity’s founding in 2015.

Dr. Bosquet will be presenting on physical activity and hypertension in the elderly. Focusing on the effective management of hypertension, he will explore the benefits of physical activity in terms of chronic illness prevention as well as associated public policy issues in the area of health promotion. For an overview of the topics he will be covering, prospective attendees are invited to consult an article he recently published on the health promotion website of MGEN, one of the largest social security organizations in France.

Formed in late 2016, the Momenta research group has to date successfully completed a strategic planning exercise and developed a brand image intended to effectively guide its activities. Momenta is the outcome of a series of initiatives arising from New Brunswick’s Wellness Strategy 2014-2021 and is built on three activity pillars:

• Knowledge: information collection, analysis, synthesis and dissemination
• Action: creation, support and mobilization of wellness initiatives
• Community: bringing together key stakeholders in raising awareness about policy changes affecting youth, schools, adults, workplaces, the elderly and special interest groups
