Aigles Bleus visit Axemen, Friday evening

Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (3-14-2 = 8 points, 6th position) travel to Wolfville to play the Acadia University Axemen (11-5-2 = 24 points, 4th position), in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action, on Friday evening.

Moncton has lost its last two games, and Acadia its last. The Axemen have the league’s second top offence with 79 goals, in 18 games, one behind the Varsity Reds. They have allowed 54 goals, the fourth-best record. Moncton is 50 and 101, after 19 outings. It has the worst goals against record of the league.

“We did have two practices to get back to the basics on the ice,” Moncton coach Judes Vallée said. “We need to crank up the machine and be competitive this Friday. This is another top 4 team. We can play well against the Varsity Reds and the X-Men, but we have difficulty against the Huskies and the Axemen. It is harder to play them. We need wins, and to work hard to keep our team spirit up. We have 33 periods of hockey left in regular season play.”

“It is nice to have all players back,” said Robbie Graham. “With good practices, we will come back. I like the Olympic surface at Acadia because I have more room to skate and pass. I have experience playing such a surface with the Dieppe Commandos. We are still missing too many scoring opportunities, but with arduous work and shots, the puck will get in the net.”
