Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues play two weekend games in Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey action.

The Université de Moncton’s women team (4-3-1=9 points, 3rd spot) travel to Charlottetown for a 3 p.m. Saturday encounter with the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (2-4-2=6 points, 6th place). On Sunday, they will host St. Thomas University Tommies (4-3-1=9 points, 3rd place), at 2 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in a game that promises action between the two teams with similar statistics.

“The Panthers have played well since the beginning of the season,” stated Moncton coach Denis Ross. “It is a team difficult to play in their rink. The game will be tightly played, just like the other games between our two teams. My team needs to play better than last Sunday when our execution on the ice was not that good. Sunday’s game will also be exciting as the Tommies did have the best of us in the first outing with a score of 5-2. We did not play well for 60 minutes. We need to limit errors caused by our own players because they always put us at a disadvantage.”

Defencemen Julie Thériault has confidence Aigles Bleues will get the four standing points this weekend. “We will concentrate on our play structure, keep the intensity and be the first on the puck,” said Julie Thériault. “We are going against two very good teams, and we will be ready. We worked hard this week. Last Sunday’s loss was a wake-up call. Nothing will be easy. We need to step on the ice with intensity in each game. Defensively, we need to limit our opponent’s space in our zone, protect our goaltender and make quick passes to our forwards to attack.”

Maëlle Rioux is presently in Hungry with France’s national team, in the Four Nations Cup and will miss the weekend games. Gabrielle Forget will get the nod between the pipes and Katherine Dubuc will return to the lineup after missing the last few weeks because of an injury.
