Université de Moncton Experiences Strong Research Income Growth

Université de Moncton ranks second among Canadian undergraduate universities and third in the country, overall, in research income growth, according to RE$EARCH Infosource Inc.

RE$EARCH Infosource Inc. reports that research funding growth at Université de Moncton is at 19.6%, increasing from 10.08 million dollars in 2015, to 12.06 million dollars in 2016. It also ranked among the top 50 research universities in the country, ranking 43rd, compared to 44th position for the previous year.

“Of course, we are very proud of these results,” stated Raymond Théberge, president and vice-chancellor. “Research is one of our strategic planning priorities. Research carried out by Université de Moncton researchers — whether fundamental, applied or other types of research — has the potential to improve all facets of our life,” he went on to say.

“It goes without saying that it is a great pleasure to see strong research income growth at Université de Moncton,” stressed Francis LeBlanc, associate vice-president of research and dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR). He added: “our university is fortunate to have exceptional researchers on staff who work hard to bring their work to fruition. The support provided to researchers by the FGSR and the Innovation Support Office has also had a beneficial impact. It is therefore fitting for all these efforts deployed to be recognized.”

Historically, universities have been key poles of scientific production. The work produced by university researchers is behind numerous innovations that benefit our daily lives. At Université de Moncton, increasing numbers of partnerships are entered into with nonprofit businesses and organizations, providing a link between new discoveries and bringing them to market, where applicable. This linkage allows the whole community to benefit from state-of-the-art knowledge, new products and technologies.

In the coming years, Université de Moncton will strive to continue to achieve such successes and see its research productivity grow.
