48 student athletes honoured by U de M for U SPORTS academic achievements


The Université de Moncton Athletics Department recognized 48 student athletes that were named to the U SPORTS All-Canadian honour roll for their academic achievements during a reception. They all maintained an academic average of 3.7 or more during the 2016–2017 season of Atlantic University Sport competitions. The university administration, sports staff and coaches were in attendance to congratulate them

The Université de Moncton Athletics Department recognized 48 student athletes that were named to the U SPORTS All-Canadian honour roll for their academic achievements.

The student athletes maintained an academic average of 3.7 or more during the 2016–2017 season. President and vice chancellor, Raymond Théberge, commended them for their dedication and abilities in academics and sports sectors. Administration and human resources vice-president, Edgar Robichaud, valued the merits of the students for their demanding work, both academically and in sports. Athletic director, Marc Boudreau, acknowledged the many sacrifices made by those students to achieve in both sectors.

The 48 student athletes are:
• Track and field: André Arsenault and Jean-Luc Bastarache, of Moncton; Raphaël Choquette and Alain Doucet, of Dieppe; Amélie Doucet, of Tétagouche Nord ; Isabelle Morris, of Miramichi; François Pelletier, of Dalhousie ; Daniel Saucier, of Riverview and Miriook St- Arnauld-Hivon, of Bouctouche.

• Men’s hockey: Pierre Durepos, of Shédiac; Danick Emond, of Terrebonne; Steve Lebel, of Lemoyne; Jean-François Pante, of Richmond ; Mitchell Robillard, of Saint-Eustache; Alex Saulnier and Allain Saulnier, of Cap-Pelé; Marc-Anthony Therrien, of Bécancour ; Alexi Thibaudeau, of Calgary and Brandon Thibeau, of Riverview.

• Women’s hockey: Dominique Bérubé, of Trois-Pistoles ; Marie-Pier Corriveau, of Magog; Sarah-Ève Mailhot, of Repentigny; Sabrina LeBlanc, of Lévy; Samantha McLaughlin, of Losier Settlement; Brittany Poitras, of Saint-André; Janie Poitras, of New Maryland; Karine Roy, of Nigadoo and Julie Thériault, of Kedgwick.

• Cross country: Kamylle Frenette, Marie-Christine Noël and Vanessa Rowe, of Dieppe and Fanny Tournay, of Paris.

• Men’s soccer: Miguel Bryar, of Madran; Dominic Girard, of Saint-Basile and Alex Laperrière, of Québec.

• Women’s soccer: Adèle Cormier, of Grand-Barachois ; Alexandra Duguay, of Shippagan ; Natalie Fleming, of Moncton; Renée Gauvin, of Moncton ; Élise Godin, of Beresford; Marilou Larocque, of St-Raphaël; Alexie LeBlanc, of Dieppe; Christine Martin, of Edmundston; Yvette Tougouri, of Moncton and Danièle Walters, of Atholville.

• Women’s volleyball: Judith Desjardins, of Fredericton; Tania Martin-Gagné, of Québec and Mila Walliser, of Peace River.

Many people were present for the recognition reception held at the Bar Le Coude, in the Student union building on the Moncton campus.
