Hockey Aigles Bleues and Tommies to play two games

Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues and St. Thomas University Tommies will play two exhibition games on the weekend in Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey action in Fredericton and Moncton.

The Aigles Bleues (3-0) and the Tommies will play this Saturday at 2 p.m. in Fredericton, and this Sunday, at the same time at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

“These are our last preseason games and we will see how the players apply our system in the three zones,” stated Moncton coach Denis Ross. “We will evaluate how the players react in front of a tough opposition. Our starting roster is finalized, we wish to see if the trios play together as directed. Sabrina Lebrun will be the goaltender, on Saturday and Gabrielle Forget, on Sunday. The Tommies have a very good team and should again be in the top 4 of the conference.”

Rookie Maëlle Rioux appreciates every moment she steps on the ice with the Aigles Bleues. “I now have a good feeling of what university calibre hockey is,” said Rioux who played with the Cégep de Limoilou last season. “St. Thomas has a good team and it will be my first time playing against them. We need to start strong in the first period because we have had difficulty in other games. I want to play my best and encourage my teammates on the bench and on the ice. I am happy with my first three games with the Bleu et Or. It is a different calibre than it is at the Cégep level. I need to work harder and I enjoy that. This is a higher level of play and much rougher. There is more physical contact and I am getting used to it.”

All players will be available to play, including 12 forwards, six defence and two goaltenders.
