U de M Hockey and Cross Country Teams in Action

The Université de Moncton men and women’s hockey and cross country teams will see action this weekend in Atlantic University Sport exhibition competitions.

The men’s hockey team will be in Matane, Quebec, Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. for games against Concordia University Stingers. The women’s hockey team will host University of Prince Edward Island Panthers in the return match, Saturday at 2 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena. The cross country Aigles are in Halifax for the Dalhousie and Saint Mary’s universities competition.

Men’s hockey
The Aigles Bleus lost their first exhibition game last week and are seeking a first win this weekend with two games against the Stingers. “Our objective is to continue progressing and master our systems of play,” coach Judes Vallée said. “We are in a new system and we found out during the first game that we were not ready. We have practiced the system this week. I also hope that the chemistry between the players will continue to develop. Concordia has a style different from the ones in the AUS and I know some of the players. They will be prepared and we need to be ready. The trip will also help the players in getting to know each other better.”

Women’s hockey
The Panthers and the Aigles Bleues played in Charlottetown on Wednesday and Saturday’s game is a rematch between the two teams. Moncton won the first game 3-1. “The Panthers have a fast and physical team,” stated coach Denis Ross. “We will choose our players for special teams, such as penalty kill, and give them a chance to practice during the game.”All the players are available for the game and Gabrielle Forget should begin the game in net.

Cross country
The Aigles are looking for stiff competition in Halifax according to coach Jean-Marc Doiron. “The Fredericton meet last weekend was a learning one for many runners of my young team,” Doiron said. “A number of them were in their first career university meet. For this weekend, I have given them instruction to run as fast as possible to see how they measure against the other top runners in the conference. It will be Kamylle Frenette’s first race this season and Carol-Ann MacDonald should do well.”

The Aigles Bleus competing are Nassim Bousmaha, Shayne Dobson, Samuel Gerber, Christian Haché, François Poirier, Ryan Smallwood and Bryan Thomas. The Aigles Bleues are Caroline Bujold, Myriam Cormier, Myriam Cyr, Sandra Durand, Amy-Lynn Grant, Josiane Guay, Laurence Guitard, Émilie Guthrie, Michelle Landry, Carol-Ann MacDonald, Abygail Pelletier, Pascale Richard, December Sampson and Hannah Scott.
