Danick Crête and Alexis Roy join the Aigles Bleus

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus will be counting on the skills of defenceman Danick Crête and forward Alexis Roy during the next season of Atlantic University Sports men’s hockey.

A native of Rigaud, Quebec, Crête played with the Victoriaville Tigers of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Valleyfield Braves of the Quebec Junior AAA League. In 49 games with the Braves last season, the left-wing defenceman scored 10 goals and got 48 assists for a total of 58 points.

“Danick Crête has great offensive qualities and I believe he will be able to adjust very well to the university level,” said Jean-François Damphousse, director of hockey operations with the Aigles Bleus. “Following an exceptional season at the Midget AAA level where he won the league championship, he joined the Victoriaville Tigers. A knee injury and a long rehabilitation forced him to end his Junior AAA career, where he persevered and excelled. He comes strongly recommended by his former coaches.”

“I am very excited to pursue my studies at the Université de Moncton and to be part of such a prestigious hockey program,” said Crête, who is registered in the business administration program. “I believe that the training will allow me to continue my progress as a hockey player and as a student, thus securing my future.”

Alexis Roy played last season with the Pictou County Crushers of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. He was the second highest points-getter in the league with 37 goals and 52 assists for a total of 89 points in 50 games. During the previous season, he had 92 points in 53 games with Vaudreuil-Dorion of the Quebec Junior AAA League. He will be studying in business administration.

“Alexis Roy is a player with character who can contribute to all facets of the game,” Damphousse said. “He has offensive potential and is not afraid of creating opportunities for this teammates. His coach with the Crushers, Doug Doull, believes in Roy’s potential. I’m really happy that he’s joining our program.”

“After last season, several options were made available to me in Canada as well as at American colleges,” Roy said. “The Université de Moncton was the best option for me to pursue my studies in my preferred subject area and to continue my progress as an athlete.”

The Aigles Bleus officially begin their training sessions on September 1.
