Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (10-17-2=22 points) will play their last Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men’s hockey regular season game on Friday, in Charlottetown, against the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (10-14-4=24pts, 5th position).

The Bleu et Or has not yet qualified for the playoffs, but got closer with an overtime loss on Wednesday. Moncton has a 3-point lead over Dalhousie University Tigers (7th place), with two games left to play and are two behind the Panthers.

’’The games in Charlottetown are always tough, physically, but we can take that,’’ stated fourth year defencemen Pierre Durepos. ‘’We need the two points. We also have the opportunity to take fifth place with a win. It will be an important game for both teams. We will build on our Wednesday game.’’

Durepos will be playing his last regular season game in a Bleu et Or uniform. “It will be emotional as it was on Wednesday when I received my jersey,’’ Durepos added. “. All sorts of memories went through my head. But, Friday, it will be a game like any other. I have a job to do on the ice to help my team win. That comes first.’’

Coach Serge Bourgeois says both teams know the importance of the game. ‘’Our aim is for a win, we are playing good hockey and we are not yet guaranteed a playoff berth,’’ Bourgeois said. ‘’We want to win to get the two points for our qualification and not depend on other teams. Playing well defensively will create offensive opportunities for us. We focused on our offensive push in our Thursday practice. The small details on the ice are important. The Panthers have a good team and winning in Charlottetown is never easy. If we play well defensively, then we can focus on scoring more goals.’’

Moncton has won three of four outings between the two teams this season. The Bleu et Or won 3-2, 4-2 and 5-2 and lost the first game, 7-5.

Brandon Thibeau will be the goaltender.
