Hockey Aigles Bleus host Varsity Reds, Wednesday

Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus will play their last two regular season games this week in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action as the Serge Bourgeois coached troop is still looking to qualify for the playoffs.

The Bleu et Or (10-17-1=21 points) needs at least a victory to capture the sixth and final playoff spot, having a two-point priority over Dalhousie University Tigers (8-17-3=19 points, 7th position).

Moncton will again host first place University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds (23-2-3=49 points) Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in its last regular season home game. Moncton will play its last game on Friday in Charlottetown, against the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (10-14-4=24 points, 5th position).

‘’All games are important at this time of the season,’’ forward Mitchell Robillard said. ‘’Being ready is vital for these games. UNB has a very good team and it will be quite a game. Playing together and offering our top performance of the season are in order to get ready for the playoffs.’’

According to coach Serge Bourgeois, the Bleu et Or played a tough game against the Reds, last week losing 6-3. ‘Our focus will be on a good defensive strategy in our zone and a much more aggressive play offensively”, said Bourgeois. We must forget the fancy plays and shoot and go in for rebounds. Our offensive play must be better. We are looking for points and a much better performance in our nest in front of our supporters. We have not played many games at home since Christmas. This one is for them.”

Brandon Thibeau will start in net for Moncton. All players are available. Five players will get their jersey in a ceremony prior to the game for having played four seasons with the Aigles Bleus. They are brothers Allain and Alex Saulnier, Pierre Durepos, Steve Lebel and Patrick Huard.
