Hockey Aigles Bleus to play against the Panthers on Wednesday

Discipline on the ice and staying out of the penalty box is the order of the day for the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus who will cross the Confederation Bridge on Wednesday for a game against the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action in Charlottetown.

The Serge Bourgeois coached team has lost its last two games and largely due to power play goals by the opposing teams, according to the coach.

"There is no doubt we need to stay away from the penalty box," coach Bourgeois stressed to his players. "We played two very good games, but the result was different than what we expected. This league is very competitive and a small mistake can cost you a game. This is a four-point game and we want to get closer to the teams ahead of us."

The Panthers are in fifth place in the standings with 22 points (9-11-4), three more than the Bleu et Or (9-14-1=19pts), tied for 6th with the Tigers. With six games left in the regular schedule, the battle for the last three playoff spots is heating up between four teams, separated by 4 points. The Dalhousie University Tigers and the Saint Mary’s University Huskies are the other teams.

In brief
All players are available for the game… Brandon Thibeau will be the goaltender… With 26 goals so far this season, Jean-François Plante (26-10=36pts, 2nd position) has the same number as Claude Lefebvre (1985-86-26 goals) and he is within one of joining Ronald LeBlanc (1972-73), Claude Gosselin (1986-87) and Dany Gauvin (1988-89) with 27… The Panthers top point getters are Cody Payne (12-4=16pts) and Marcus Power (7-9=16pts).
