Émilie Almhana, a fourth-year civil engineering student (coop) at the Université de Moncton, was awarded one of two $3,000 Jocelyne Roy Vienneau Scholarships for women in engineering during a ceremony held recently at Government House in Fredericton.

Named in honour of New Brunswick’s current Lieutenant Governor, herself an Université de Moncton engineering graduate, the scholarship was created in 2015 by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB) to increase the number of female engineers.

Two scholarships valued at $3,000 each are offered each year to female undergraduate engineering students who are beginning at least their second year of full-time studies at the Université de Moncton or the University of New Brunswick (UNB). Students must show proof of leadership and must be dynamic role models and volunteers in their community.

Born in Caraquet, Ms. Almhana has represented the Université de Moncton locally and nationally by participating in various events focusing on women in engineering. She also takes part in other awareness activities such as the annual Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition in which she has participated since 2014.
