U de M CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud Sets Aside Two Hours a Week for Women

Starting on Wednesday, November 2nd, the weigth room of the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud at the Université de Moncton will be accessible to women only for two one-hour periods every week.

This decision of the physical activity and sport department aims to ensure that female members of the CEPS can safely avail themselves of the facilities. “We finally agreed to a request from a group of women who wanted such access. We hope that many women will choose to take advantage of this option," said physical activity and sport director Marc Boudreau.

The weight room will be reserved for female members of the CEPS on Wednesdays and Fridays of each week, from 3 to 4 p.m. The new schedule will be in effect for about four months, until February 24, 2017. At that time, the situation will be re-assessed.

The student union, the Fédération des étudiantes et des étudiants du Campus universitaire de Moncton (FÉÉCUM), is pleased with this decision. It addresses the concerns of several of its members. “We applaud the creation of a safe space for our members, and we hope that this pilot project will raise the awareness of the general population about the realities of women,” said FÉÉCUM president Roxann Guerrette.
