U de M soccer teams will travel to Charlottetown on Sunday

Université de Moncton soccer teams are still in a fight for a place in the Atlantic University Sport championship tournaments, but they need victories in the last two games of the season to cement their participation.

The Mehyar Zekaroui and Florian Ntima Nsiemi coached teams will visit the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers on Sunday in Charlottetown for games at 1 p.m. (women) and 3:15 p.m. (men).

In the women division, the Aigles Bleues are 2-7-1=7 points, in 8th position while the Panthers are in 6th and final qualifying position with 2-5-2=8 points. A win by Moncton would lift them above the Panthers and keep hopes alive with one more game to be played next week.

''The UPEI game is very important,'' said women coach Mehyar Zekaroui. ''We have played them and we know their play. I think we are a bit better in certain aspects of the game. We have a good chance of winning.'' The two teams played to a 2-2 tie last Saturday in Moncton and all the plays have been studied. ''We have two games in two weeks, so we can focus on one at a time and push ourselves to the victory.''

The Aigles Bleus are 1-8-1, for four points and in 9th position, compared to 3-5-1=10 points and in 6th an final qualifying position for the Panthers, in the men conference. A tie or loss will eliminate the Aigles Bleus with one more game to be played.

''We will take advantage of the fact we only have one game and we will push our limit further,'' coach Florian Ntima Nsiemi. ''We analysed what cost us goals this season. We lost to the Panthers on Saturday so we are preparing this away game very carefully. We will adjust to their attacks, speed and physical strength.''
