An essential win for the Aigles Bleus

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus have the chance to climb in the standings Wednesday with a win over the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game in Charlottetown at 7 p.m.

The Blue and Gold has been trailing in7th place and at the bottom of the standings since the beginning of this campaign with two wins, five setbacks and an overtime loss for 5 points. The Panthers are 6th with a 3-4-1-0 record for 7 points, two more than Moncton.

“It's a game we can’t afford to lose,” said coach Judes Vallée. “We didn't manage to win two games in a row this year and we have to succeed.”

The Aigles won their last outing, 7-6 in overtime. The coach credits this victory with a late awakening of the team as a unit. “We played as an ensemble,” he said. “We need these 2 points in the standings and above all, it will be good for morale. Our play in the last third period is a good point to start this game. We must not complicate our lives and try the perfect play. You must shoot, and the goal doesn't have to be beautiful. I hope we learned from the last game because only one of our goals was nice. We still have difficulty with our special units, but we move forward in stages.”

There are still a few injured players, and a decision will be made on Wednesday as to whether they will be able to play. Team captain Vincent Deslauriers, defender Olivier Desjardins and goalkeeper Étienne Montpetit could miss the game.

In brief: Nathaël Roy is the Aigles Bleus scoring leader with 7 goals and 1 assist for 8 points in as many games. He is 11th in AUS. Remy Englehart and Mika Cyr (1 and 3), Gabriel Vanier (2 and 2) and Samuel Guilbeault (3 and 1) follow with 4 points. The Panthers won the only game between the two clubs this season, 4-1 on October 9th. Defensemen Alex Arsenault, Francis Thibeault and Wilson Forest have 2 points each. Goaltender Émile Samson is ranked 8th in the standings with a .898 save percentage.

The game will be broadcasted on AUStv.ca.
