The Atlantic University Sport Subway Cross Country Championships will bring together approximately 120 athletes from 16 teams on Saturday on the field adjacent to the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena on the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton.

The two Aigles teams under the direction of coach Steve LeBlanc will represent their institution during the field races. The women will start at 12 noon and the men at 1 pm over the distance of 8 km.

“All our athletes are healthy and fit,” said Steve LeBlanc. “I expect very good races from them. This course should be fast but with challenges, and there are good competitors in both races.”

The Aigles Bleues in competition are the team captain Myriam Cormier, Amélie Cormier, Isabella Lemaire, Hannah Levyssohn, and Camille Ruest. “The goal is for everyone to achieve their best time of the season, Steve LeBlanc said. It will be difficult for the team to score as we only have five runners compared to seven for the others, except Saint Mary's with four athletes. Our success will come from strong individual performances.”

According to team captain Myriam Cormier, “We want to give our best and we are confident. We have improved our times at each race, and we have the chance to train on our grass course. It's beautiful with no big mound and a few descents. We will take advantage of that.”

The men's team of 7 runners is looking forward to this race. “We will continue to employ a strategy of using team tactics in the first half of the race to build towards a strong team ending in the men's race,” added Steve LeBlanc. “In the second half of the race, the goal will be for each athlete to exceed one or two competitors per lap. We've been in a back-and-forth battle all season with the Panthers, and we hope to get ahead of them in this last race.” Alain Lavoie, Jérémie Gervais, Olivier Godin, Vincent Leclair, Jonathan Roy, Maxime Savoie and Julien Thibodeau will be in the race for the Aigles Bleus.

“We want big performances from all team members,” added the men’s captain, Allain Lavoie, a 4th year student. “Our times have always progressed. We run for the pleasure and for performing well. We've had three races and we're super ready.”

There will be teams from Acadia, Dalhousie, Memorial, Moncton, St. Francis Xavier, Saint Mary's, St. Thomas, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island universities.

Spectators will have the chance to see the races on the side of the field.
