Aigles Bleus de l'Université de Moncton (0 and 1) fans have the chance to see the 2021-2022 edition of the men's hockey team in action during the first home game of the season on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (0 and 0) will be the visitors on this occasion following more than a year and a half of absence from university league activities. The 2020-2021 season was cancelled due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are approaching this opening game like the others," said rookie Nathaël Roy. “It's still special and since we lost Wednesday in Fredericton, we do not want to lose a second in a row and the opening at home. I appreciate the caliber of university play and I believe it will help me in my progression to another level. It's fast, physical and a high caliber. To win games, we need to take advantage of our chances, keep working hard and do our jobs on the ice. We will have to go to the net and shoot often to score.” Roy played parts of five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, including four with the Sherbrooke Phoenix and the last with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.

Coach Judes Vallée has corrected a few strategies since Wednesday's game to be ready for the Panthers. His team won both preseason games against the Panthers, but he knows the regular season is very different. "We still played well on Wednesday, and we want to build on that," he said. “I can't wait for all players to be available. We still have a few injuries, and some players are not 100 percent. This is a great opportunity for rookies to make their mark from the start. »

Spectators are admitted for the Saturday game. However, the correct wearing of a face mask is always mandatory throughout the arena, except for active drinking or eating. It will also be necessary to show proof of double vaccination and a government-issued ID card before entering the arena.

All players and personnel on the roster will be introduced before the game with an official puck drop to kick off the season.
