Derek Cormier to join Aigles Bleus coaching staff

Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus men’s hockey coach, Judes Vallée, announced that Dieppe’s Derek Cormier will join his team as an assistant coach for the next Atlantic University Sport season.

Derek Cormier is well known in hockey circles, being the director of Pro-évolution elite athlete training and the East Coast Hockey Program. He is also an assistant coach with the Dieppe Flyers AAA major U15 team. He is a former Canadian Junior Hockey League player of the year in 1992–1993. His professional experience expands over 15 years, mainly in Europe.

“I am very happy that Derek Cormier has accepted to join our team,” Judes Vallée said. “He will have important roles to play with myself and Ricky Jacob. He will help with the defencemen and will also contribute to our power play strategies. Derek possesses very valuable experiences following a successful offensive career. He is also very knowledgeable in technical aspects.”

“This is a great opportunity for me to get experience coaching at a higher level and working with Judes Vallée and Ricky Jacob in the coming season,” stated Derek Cormier. “I also look forward to sharing knowledge with the high-level athletes. I want to learn and help the team. Working with defencemen is not necessarily my expertise, but it takes me out of my comfort zone and it will be a good challenge to better my knowledge. I was very good on power plays when playing and I should be able to help the team.”
