The Université de Moncton women’s soccer coach, Mehyar Zekaroui, has announced that Katarina Laevski and Julia Parker will be joining his team for the upcoming Atlantic University Sport season.

“Both players are strong academically and have good interpersonal skills, which fits perfectly with our values,” says Zekaroui. “We’re excited to have them with us and start working together on the field.”

Katarina Laevski

Campbellton native Katarina Laevski plays forward/midfield. At 5′8″, she currently plays with the team from Polyvalente Roland-Pépin. Next year, she plans to study applied computer science.

“Katarina is someone who can play midfield or on the flanks,” says Zekaroui. “She stands out because she gets quite a bit of play time during games, in addition to being very aggressive when it comes to duels and defensive moves. She’s made a good impression in her time with the provincial Team NB program, and we strongly anticipate that she’ll play an important role in her years with the Aigles Bleues.”

“I’m very excited and grateful to have the opportunity to play with the Aigles Bleues next fall,” says Laevski. “Soccer has always been important in my life. My grandfather and father, originally from Europe, introduced me to the sport. They’ve always supported me and helped me grow. I’m looking forward to showing my skills on the field and learning from other players so that I can improve even further.”

Julia Parker

Winger Julia Parker is a 5′4″ Moncton native who currently plays with the Codiac Soccer and Soccer NB teams. She plans to study nutrition next year.

“Julia is a player we’ve known very well since she was 13 years old,” explains the Bleu et Or coach. “She’s always been a diligent member of her club and the provincial program. She stands out above all for her ability to execute technical and tactical instructions and for her ability to kick with her left foot when playing offence.”

“I’m very pleased with this new step in my soccer career,” says Parker. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to practise with the Aigles and to continue developing my skills on the field. I’m very proud to be part of such an inspiring team of young women. It will make me a better player and help me make faster decisions during the game. I’ve grown a lot during my time with Codiac Soccer and the provincial team thanks to my coaches and my family’s support. I’m very excited to see what I can accomplish in my future as an Aigle player.”
