Annual Report on Sexual Violence at the Université de Moncton

During the 2019–2020 year, a total of 293 interventions were carried out on all three campuses to provide assistance and support in relation to sexual violence.

This is documented in the 2019–2020 annual report on sexual violence of the Université de Moncton. The report also indicates that 18 incidents of sexual violence were reported and eight cases led to the filing of an internal complaint. Additionally, 50% of cases of sexual violence occurred on one of the university’s three campuses, while 35% occurred online and 15% off-campus.

The various forms of sexual violence observed during the past year included sexual assault, online sexual violence, sexual harassment and exhibitionism.

“The Université de Moncton has extensive resources in place to assist and support victims of sexual violence,” stated Dr. Denis Prud’homme, President and Vice-Chancellor. “Although it is satisfying to see members of the university community making use of these resources, it is also clear that there is no place in our community for violence of any form. I commend our response team, which is doing an outstanding job at sharing information and raising awareness across all three campuses about the various facets of sexual violence.”

The 2019–2020 annual report on sexual violence also describes the prevention, awareness and education activities that have been implemented at the Université de Moncton. Among other things, the report lists the achievements of the working group on creating a culture of consent, which is mandated to promote a coordinated response in prevention, awareness raising and education concerning the problem of sexual violence.

In 2019–2020, the working group established a response protocol for sexual violence and revised the policy on sexual violence of the Université de Moncton. The group also worked in tandem with Continuing Education and a number of specialized organizations to deliver training to members of the university community on responding to sexual assault disclosures.

The 2019–2020 annual report on sexual violence is available on the Université de Moncton website.
