Katherine d’Entremont Appointed Interim Ombud

Katherine d’Entremont has been appointed interim ombud of the Université de Moncton. She took over the position effective September 15 and will remain in office until the end of December 2020.

“We are very pleased to welcome Ms. d’Entremont to the Université de Moncton,” stated Edith Doucet, chair of the Board of Governors. “The entire university community will benefit greatly from her extensive experience in complaint management and conflict resolution. Her presence will assist us in maintaining the continuity of services to promote a respectful work and study environment.”

Currently founding president of Consultation Aymar Consulting, Ms. d’Entremont has held a number of high-profile positions during her career, notably Commissioner of Official Languages for New Brunswick, director of the Office of Official Languages and director responsible for investigations under the Respectful Workplace Policy of the New Brunswick Public Service.

She has a wealth of experience in handling complaints and conducting investigations and has led numerous system-wide studies and interventions.

Ms. d’Entremont has broad experience in developing and implementing a range of alternative conflict-resolution processes and has dealt with numerous complex and sensitive issues among a wide range of groups over the course of her career. She was also co-author of the very first respectful workplace policy for Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the New Brunswick Public Service.

She holds Bachelor of Education and Master of Public Administration degrees from the Université de Moncton as well as the Osgoode/FCO Certificate for ombuds from York University.

Reporting directly to the Board of Governors, the Office of the Ombud operates independently of all other administrative structures at the Université de Moncton to maintain impartiality. The ombud is responsible primarily for formulating recommendations, conducting investigations, and managing complaints and conflicts among members of the university community who have exhausted the internal means available to them but continue to believe that their rights have been violated. The ombud advises and raises awareness among members of the university community on matters related to her mandate and informs them of the means and options available to them.
