The Université de Moncton track and field coach, Steve LeBlanc, will add two rookies to his roster for the next Atlantic University Sport track and field season. Max Mazerolle, of Cocagne, and Merveille Sambili, of Moncton, have signed the U SPORTS letter of intent to wear the Aigles Bleus uniform.

Merveille Sambili just completed his high school at Moncton’s L’Odyssée. “I have been training and competing in track and field for many years and I always wanted to become an Aigle Bleu,” Samibili indicated. “I will study in interior design and I enjoy arts, so the mixture is very attracting for me. I am a sprinter in the 100 m and 200 m distances, and these two races are meant for me. I tried longer distances, but I did not enjoy them.” The 5′8″ athlete played various sports in high school, including track and field, rugby, football and soccer.

Max Mazerolle completed his Grade 12 at école Mgr-Marcel-François-Richard, in Saint-Louis-de-Kent. He has been a member of ASEA track club for many years, and it was natural for him to pursue studies at the Université de Moncton. “I will study in kinesiology and also compete in track and field,” Mazerolle said. “I was approached to attend the Moncton campus and I decided to remain close to my family for my first year. The Aigles Bleus program is good and in development, and I realize my performances should also improve while I continue training at the CEPS and the Stadium. I began multi-event competitions last season, and I really enjoy that. I hope to qualify for the Canada Games (Niagara Falls, Ont.) and the Jeux de la Francophonie canadienne (Victoria, BC) teams for next summer.” Mazerolle measures 5′11″ and weighs 140 lb.

“I am happy to have these two athletes join our team,” coach Steve LeBlanc said. “I have coached Merveille for a number of seasons. Both athletes have great potential at the university level.”
