Thirteen Athletes Nominated for Sports Awards

The Athletic Department of the Moncton campus of the Université de Moncton will honour its student athletes on Thursday, April 2nd as 13 athletes have been nominated for the various awards. Please note that the Annual Sports Award Banquet was to be held on April 2nd but was cancelled because of the COVID-19 situation. For that reason, the winners will be announced through a news release and social media.

The awards for the 2019-2020 season will go to athletes who are members of the nine sports teams of the Université de Moncton who participated in the Atlantic University Sports (AUS) and U SPORTS.

The five nominees for the women’s athlete-of-the-year award are: Katherine Dubuc, Victoriaville, hockey; Véronique Omalosanga, Moncton, track and field; Sophie Black, Dieppe, cross-country; Joanie Arsenault, municipalité régionale de Tracadie, volleyball; and Natalie Fleming, Moncton, soccer.

The men’s athlete-of-the-year award will be given to either Maxime St-Cyr, Saint-Didace, hockey; or Jean-Michel Dako, Moncton, soccer.

A hockey player from Val d’Amour, Francis Thibeault, and a Dieppe cross-country runner, Jérémie Gervais, are up for the men’s rookie-of-the-year title.

The choice for women’s rookie-of-the-year will be between four candidates: Cassidy Martin, Dieppe, volleyball; Zoe Brockbank, Grande-Digue, soccer and track and field; Caroline Gagnon, Moncton, track and field; and Pascale Lebeau, Louiseville, hockey.

The coach-of-the-year award and the AUS James Bayer Award recipients will also be named as well as the MVPs of each team.
