Men’s Hockey: Aigles Bleus to Host Reds
For their last regular-season game, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (13-10-6-0=32 points, 4th position) host first place University of New Brunswick Reds (24-4-0=48pts) Saturday at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in an Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey game.
Both teams will look to establish themselves in this game going into the playoffs next week. Moncton could still climb in third spot, depending on the Saint Mary’s University Huskies results this weekend. Both teams have 32 points, the Huskies having a game in hand.
Forward Édouard Michaud will return to the Moncton line-up following a five-week absence because of an injury. “It will be an intense game, knowing their level of play,” he said. “The are peeking and so are we going into the payoffs. We can surprise them. We will emphasize our defensive play knowing their offensive power. Our attack will not be neglected.’’
Coach Judes Vallée is not sure of the value of the game on the season. “It all depends on the Friday evening results,” he said. “Both teams will want to stay away from injuries. We have had our difficulties against them this season. Our defensive core is impacted by injuries, but we will give it our best.”
Defencemen Michael Kemp and Vincent Lanoue will miss the game because of injuries. A ceremony will be held prior to opening whistle in recognition of the players having played four or five seasons with the Aigles Bleus.
