Men’s Hockey: Aigles Bleus Visit Panthers Wednesday

In Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (12-10-6-0=30 points, 4th position) travel to Charlottetown on Wednesday for a meeting with the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) Panthers (10-13-5=25 points, 6th position).

Both teams are still looking to climb in the final standings with only two games left in the regular schedule. Moncton is still trying to grab the third spot with a deficit of two points behind the Saint Mary’s University Huskies. The Panthers have an opportunity to finish in fifth with a two-point spread with the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men (27 points). Moncton won its last outing, whereas UPEI won its last two. Moncton has scored 83 goals in 28 games and allowed 89 compared to 93 and 123, respectively, for UPEI.

“We played well in our last game and we will build on that,” Moncton coach Judes Vallée indicated. “Our season of ups and downs needs to end because we cannot play like that in the playoffs. We hear nice speeches, but now it is time to act. I will evaluate our players on their performance. This is a very important game going into the playoffs. We still have an opportunity to take third spot, but we cannot control the other teams. We will battle until the end.”

“We definitely want to win our last two games of the season,” Dieppe forward Ryan Chiasson said. “We are in playoff mode. We need to have the get-go and be well prepared. The team needs to eliminate the Panthers’ chances of scoring and finish our body checks.”

Moncton will put an end to its regular season on Saturday as they host the University of New Brunswick Reds at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.
