Men’s Hockey: Aigles Bleus Are Focused on Third Spot

In Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men’s hockey, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (11-9-6-0=28 points, 4th position) play two games in Nova Scotia this weekend.

The Judes Vallée coached team, assured of a playoff spot, will be in Halifax on Friday for an encounter with the Saint Mary’s University Huskies (15-11-0=30 points, 3rd position). Saturday, they will be in Wolfville to meet the Acadia University Axemen (18-7-1-0=37 points, 2nd position). Aigles Bleus are still aiming for a 3rd spot finish, and with two points behind Saint Mary’s, a win on Friday would offer them a good chance of meeting their objective.

“Our focus is on the 3rd place,” said Moncton coach Judes Vallée. “The Friday game could determine the standings. We have had difficulty against the Huskies this season, and I am looking for consistency in our play. We must keep our plays simple and with our identity. Our special units must also contribute regularly. Our penalty kill is doing well, but we are lacking consistency on the power play. We have played well against the Axemen and that should continue on Saturday.”

“The Friday game is our most important one this season to meet our objective,” said top Aigles scorer, Maxime St-Cyr (18-17=35 points, 4th in AUS). “We have had difficulty in the first period this season; we must have better preparation and concentration and work hard from the first whistle. I want to help the team win the playoffs and get to the Canadian championship.”

Étienne Montpetit will be the goaltender. Huskies have won two out of three prior games between the two clubs. Moncton won two out of three games against the Axemen.
