Hockey Aigles Bleus to Visit Panthers on Wednesday

Following two weekend victories and two days of rest, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (5-4-3=13 points, 4th position) swing back in action on Wednesday as they visit the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (4-6-2=10 points, 6th position) in an Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey game.

The Judes Vallée coached team did win two impressive games on the weekend against higher-ranked teams and will face a club with three points less in the standings. Both teams won their last two games.

“The standings are very tight, and the game is worth four points for us,” indicated Moncton coach Judes Vallée. “A win will enable us to widen the gap between the two teams and inch closer to the top teams. We are definitely looking for a win. We usually play better on their home ice. We cannot take this game lightly.”

The Panthers have won both encounters against the Aigles Bleus this season with scores of 4-1 and 3-2 in overtime. The task at hand will not be easy. “These are two important points at this moment in the season,” Vallée added. “We held a good practice Tuesday morning to get ready for the game. More than a third of the season has been played.”

The Bleu et Or offensive has produced better lately with 36 goals scored in 12 games. The team has allowed 39. The Panthers record is 39 and 50. Kameron Kielly of the Panthers is tied for second in the scoring race with 17 points on seven goals and 10 assists, the same record as the top Aigles player, Maxime St-Cyr. Étienne Montpetit is second in save percentages for the goaltenders with .907. Panthers Simon Hofley is ninth with .886.

Étienne Montpetit should be in nets for Moncton. Alexi Thibaudeau is the only player on the injury list. The game is at 7 p.m. and may be viewed at AUStv.ca.
