Both Université de Moncton teams will attend the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) cross-country championship to be held on Saturday in Fredericton.

The women’s 8 km race will be held at 12 p.m. and the men’s 8 km at 12:45 p.m.

“The objectives of the women are simply to have their best race this season,” coach Steve LeBlanc indicated. “We want to finish before one or two other teams in the final team standings. I hope one of our runners will be in the top 7.”

Sophie Black has been the top Aigles Bleues runner this season. “It is difficult to have a goal time-wise because all the races have a different path,” she said. “My intention is to get a good spot at the beginning and finish strong.”

The Aigles Bleues participating in the race are Sophie Black, Myriam Cormier, Émilie Guthrie, Pascale Richard and Mia Schofield.

“The majority of our male runners are rookies,” LeBlanc added. “I ask of them to have their best performance and finish in front of other teams in the standings. I know the course will be quick with good conditions. I expect rapid times for our athletes.”

Rookie Jérémie Gervais of Dieppe will be at the starting line on Saturday. “I just hope for a personal best time under 29:25 on the 8 km,” Gervais said. “I hope to be in a group of runners and finish first in the group. In Antigonish, I was 50th out of 70 runners. I look for a placement in the thirties or forties. My season went well. I have not run much during the last two seasons, so I was able to make many time gains. These are my first AUS, and I look forward to it. All team members have practised well, and coach LeBlanc training program gave us a chance to make improvements.”

The men at the staring line will be Yannick Boudreau, Simon Delorme, Jérémie Gervais, Marc Guillodo, Christian Haché, Jonathan Roy, Guillaume Ragaru and Dominic Roy.
