The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues will play a home-and-home series against the University of New Brunswick Reds this weekend in the initial games of the 2019-2020 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s volleyball season.

The Monette Boudreau-Carroll coached team will host the Reds on Friday at 7 p.m. at the gymnasium of the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud on the Moncton campus. Both teams will battle again on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Fredericton.

The team has seven returning players and six rookies. There are nine first-year or second-year players. Pascale Doiron is the only fifth-year player. The rookies should have an immediate impact, including Cassidy Martin, Emily Robichaud, Noémie Brideau and Abigail Palister who are from the High Performance Program.

“We will analyze play during the first game,” said coach Monette Boudreau-Carroll. “We play at home, and our team functions well together. We are a young team. We are determined to learn in each game. I expect a strong start and a win. With a home-and-home series within two days, it is not easy to get ready for game number 2. Both teams are in the same situation. We will have a better idea of our opposition after the first game and adjustments could be made on Sunday.”

“I am excited for my fifth and last season,” added player Pascale Doiron. “We have a good team. I am anxious to find out how we will respond. We have many rookies, but my role will be like last season. All players have a role to play, and they will not leave me alone. Even if we have a young team, many rookies have played for Monette over the years, and they know her style and structure of play. I expect an exciting season.”

In brief…
  • All Aigles Bleues players of the 2019-2020 season will be introduced prior to the Friday game.
  • Moncton ended last season in 5th place with a 3-17 record.
  • The Reds were third with 12-7.
  • There will be a playoff series this year instead of an AUS tournament to determine the championship.
