Soccer Aigles host Charlottetown, Saturday

Both Université de Moncton soccer teams will host the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers in Atlantic University Sport soccer games on Saturday at Stade Croix Bleue Medavie Stadium, at 1 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.

At the half-way mark in regular schedule, the women Aigles Bleues (2-2-2 = 8pts, 7th position) face the Panthers (1-7-0 = 3 pts, 8e position). Both teams played on the island on Sept. 22.

“We only have one game to manage this weekend, it will be better physically,” coach Mehyar Zekaroui said. “We meet a team we have already played against. We did win the first match-up in the last minutes of play and it was a tight game. I don’t expect anything different. We have gained confidence and we believe in our means. We are looking forward to our first home game in three weeks and I hope the spectators will be there. We need them. »

Player Katrine LeBlanc is in her third season with the Blue and Gold. “I expect a game with lots of intensity and we are confident we can get through it. Our season is going well, but we cannot take this one easy. We have confidence in our team, and we play one game at a time in the right direction.”

In the men’s game, the Aigles Bleus (1-4-1 = 4 pts, 8th position) will face a determined Panthers team (4-3-1 = 13 pts, 3rd position).

“This will be another hard-fought game against the third best team in the league,” said Moncton coach Younes Bouida. “The team will be ready to face the challenge. It is exciting to return to play in front of our fans following three road games. We have a lot more energy playing at home. We are going full steam ahead with the home fans motivation. All we need is hard work ethic on the field combined with motivation to score and win. I am looking for that click moment that will turn things around for us.”

According to keeper Christian Masimengo, “we are focused and ready for the three points. We need a win on this return game, and we need to take advantage of our chances. We are in the second half of the season and we need to play as a team, have a great defence and get positive results. We have a healthy competition amongst the keepers to get starter status for a game.”

The games are on AUStv.ca.
