Hockey Aigles Bleus on the Road Friday and Saturday

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus play the first two of four pre-season games this weekend in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action.

The Aigles Bleus travel to Charlottetown on Friday evening for a 7 p.m. encounter against the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers. Saturday, they are in Antigonish for a duel with the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men at 2 p.m.

“I have seen interesting things at the training camp for the last two weeks,” said Moncton head coach, Judes Vallée. “I look forward to the weekend games to see how we will respond with our speed and checking. I expect a lot of intensity as in the regular season. The Panthers did eliminate us in the playoffs last spring. The X-Men always have a good team. We still have a lot of work to accomplish, but it will offer me a good indication of where we stand at this time and how to get ready for the regular season.”

Vincent Deslaurieurs is the new team captain. He begins his third season. “We are going to see a very hard-working team on the ice,” he said. “I am sure the play will not be as coordinated as we would like, but many players need to learn new play systems. We will play very good games. The training camp has gone well and all players have accepted their role and their tasks with the team. Each has his game to play and it will be demonstrated on the ice.”

Regular season in men’s hockey begins on Friday, September 27, in Wolfville against the Acadia University Axemen.
