The Université de Moncton Saddened by the Death of Her Honour, the Honourable Jocelyne Roy Vienneau

The Université de Moncton is saddened by the death of the Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick, Her Honour, the Honourable Jocelyne Roy Vienneau.

Ms. Roy Vienneau, who was both the first woman to be Vice-President of a Université de Moncton campus and the first woman to be Principal of a Francophone Community College in New Brunswick, made an enormous contribution to the development of post-secondary education in French.

“Her Honour played a crucial role at both the college and university levels,” said Jacques Paul Couturier, Interim President and Vice-Chancellor of the Université de Moncton. “She made a huge contribution to the development of the Shippagan campus, where she was Vice-President from 2005 to 2014. She has received many honours for her commitment. I, along with the entire university community, wish to pay her homage and to offer our condolences to her family.”

Ms. Roy Vienneau trained as an engineer and was among the first women to graduate from the Université de Moncton’s Faculty of Engineering. She worked all over Canada and the United States and expanded the influence of her profession.

Throughout her career, Her Honour promoted research and innovation. In both her professional and her volunteer activities, she devoted her time and energy to the development of the Acadian community and the promotion of education, literacy, the environment, health, music and youth in New Brunswick.

All three campus of the Université de Moncton will fly their flags at half-mast from today, August 2, until the day of her funeral.
