The New Brunswick Innovation Foundation (NBIF) is granting the Université de Moncton $100,000 to fund a project in partnership with Sweat Academy Athlete Development Inc. to design a connected (IoT) coaching machine for basketball players.

In 2017-2018, the NBIF funded a joint project between Sweat Academy Athlete Development Inc. and the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Université de Moncton. The experience was such a positive one that the firm wishes to collaborate with the Université de Moncton again to create an innovative new product for the professional athlete training equipment market.

“This project will allow us to offer many of our students the chance to work on real-life electrical engineering problems, to devise solutions for complex and changing problems and to design products that meet specific needs,” explained Yassine Bouslimani, Director of the Department of Electrical Engineering. “I’m delighted to continue this collaboration, which is made possible through major investments by the firm and through ongoing support and commitment from the NBIF, the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) and the Office of Innovation Support (OIS).”

According to Mohsen Ghribi, full professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, “electrical engineering students working on the project will face challenges in designing electronic cards, controlling electric motors, Internet connectivity for machines and devices, developing mobile apps and cloud servers and managing information and data via the Internet.”

The Department of Electrical Engineering’s research team is made up of Professors Yassine Bouslimani and Mohsen Ghribi; Tobie Boutot, research engineer; and a number of undergraduate and graduate students.
