A historic donation of $1 million from Guy J. Gaudet, a civil engineering graduate of Université de Moncton, has led to the creation of a new scholarship fund entitled the Guy J. Gaudet Scholarship Fund.

The Guy J. Gaudet Scholarship Fund will be used to grant scholarships to Acadian students enrolled full-time in a Faculty of Engineering program. The Guy J. Gaudet Scholarships will be awarded yearly through revenues generated by the Fund.

And additional donation of $73,000 from Mr. Gaudet has also allowed us to modernize the classroom, which now bears the name of Mr. Guy J. Gaudet.

The historic donation of $1,073,00 from Mr. Gaudet was presented as part of the Evolution Fundraising Campaign and is the highest amount ever given to Université de Moncton by one of its graduates. Mr. Gaudet holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (civil engineering) from Université de Moncton (1976) and was named graduate of the year of the Faculty of Engineering in 2015. He has built a distinguished career in the field of engineering.

“Education and the development of human potential have always been very important to me,” emphasized Guy J. Gaudet. “With my donation, I hope that Université de Moncton will be able to improve the training it offers and provide future Acadian students of the Faculty of Engineering the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute to our society,” he went on to say.

According to Mr. Jacques Paul Couturier, Interim President and Vice-Chancellor, “the donation from Mr. Gaudet to his alma mater is very important for Université de Moncton and the Faculty of Engineering student population.” He added that “the Scholarship Fund would promote accessibility to university studies for students interested in engineering. The Guy J. Gaudet Classroom will facilitate exchanges between engineering students collaborating on design projects.”

The Guy J. Gaudet Classroom was designed in a way that will foster active learning, while allowing students to work in groups on joint projects, with a layout that fosters exchanges and the use of new technologies. It is equipped with seven work stations with integrated monitors, a large whiteboard, a station for the professor and small boards for brainstorming sessions. The room is also equipped with three single workstations and can accommodate up to 35 students.

“The continuous improvement of our student population’s working and studying methods is a top priority,” mentioned Gilles Roy, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.” He went on to say: “we are very happy about the creation of the Scholarship Fund and the inauguration of a classroom that will be able to meet the needs of our student clientele. The classroom will facilitate teamwork and design work, which are essential skills for engineers.”

The Evolution Fundraising Campaign is aimed at enhancing excellence in research and development and offering a fulfilling student experience at Université de Moncton. As part of this fundraising campaign, Université de Moncton continues to develop one of the most generous and motivating scholarship programs in the province to foster existing students, recruit new students and support those enrolled in graduate studies.
